Volunteer Event Organizer

A first of its kind "hack" event where volunteers finished a huge pile of creative work for local charities.

It all started with the networking group I host, Secret Handshake. People I meet at Secret Handshake are always asking how they can help out. On the other hand, I know a few great charities in our city who would kill for a better logo or a brochure to help get the word out.

So I put two and two together.

14 Charities    49 Creatives     1 Awesome Day

For one full day, Goodwork volunteers devoted their creative talents to a local non-profit. Projects were fully scoped and prepared prior to the event by Goodwork project mentors, so on the big day, volunteers could hit the ground running.

Goodwork was held on Saturday March 9, 2013, and supported United Way Partner Agencies. Projects involved branding, design, marketing strategy, social media strategy, writing and web development.

The (good) work

We completed 37 projects for Mediation Services, Right to Housing, Manitoba Association for Rights and Liberties, Local Investment Toward Employment, L'Arche Tova Cafe, Canadian CED Network, Pregnancy and Family Support Services, West Broadway Youth Outreach, The John Howard Society of Manitoba, Green Action Centre, Wolseley Family Place, Spence Neighbourhood Association, Fruit Share, and Canadian Muslim Women's Institute.

The project leadership & mentor group included myself, Chris Lobay, Kristin McPherson, Tyler Johnston, Joseph Ranseth, Paul Lacap, Lee Waltham, Matt Carreau, Ian Mortier, and Jay Smith.

Paul Lacap was in charge of sponsorship, and Signy Gerrard was our media specialist.
